Day 7- Tuesday

Today's itinerary:
Bastille day!
Wake up and get to musee d'orsay before the parade is over
Because the president is closing the parade across the seine from the museum, the train stations have closed the two stops we would get off at.  Because it's France, there are people in the stations to tell you what to do....in French.   With a lot of gesturing and pointing, we got there.

The early part of the museum....

We some some amazing art and came to the conclusion that 200 years ago, all the woman walked around naked.

One of my favorites...

Hey, it's Beethoven!

A bigger picture from the second floor.

Does she know how famous she is?

A couple hours later.......it's a theme- sleepy quinlans.

The upper level and the amazing view.

We left to get lunch and found this pretty church.

There were relief carvings of each of the stations of the cross around the church walls.  The picture just doesn't do it justice.

The gothic architecture is amazing here.

Then we wandered our way to the hotel des invalides to see napoleons tomb.

It's pretty fancy here.  Check out the inlaid marble floor.  The whole place had this.

Then I made the mistake of thinking it wasn't too long of a walk back.   I was wrong.  The streets and bridges that led back to our apartment were all closed to get ready for the fireworks tonight.  There were also lines of police cars going down the street.  You can see just a few of them here.  When we got back there were naps and quiet time.

We ate close by for dinner and met a fun couple from the uk that were just married.  It was fun speaking English and being friendly to strangers.

Then to find a spot to see the fireworks.  Mobs and mobs of people.

This was a couple of hours before it started. There were many people still to come.  We managed to rent an apartment only two blocks from this spot, so it was easy to get home from here.

Found this great spot, but I couldn't handle the smoke and close proximity of so many people.  Sean and I moved farther back and could only see the top third of the tower, so we missed a lot of the show.
They set them off from the whole tower.  It was by far the most impressive fireworks I have ever seen!

Bon Nuit!  Tomorrow is Versailles.
